Today's form of legalism could be defined as anything we do (or don't do) in order to earn favor with God. It insists on conformity to man-made religious rules and requirements. Points of focus include the building of "fences", contending with differences of opinions, elevation of spiritual disciplines over God's laws, excessive concern over what others think above God's view, contending with controlling personalities above God's word; the need to serve one another in love as directed in Galatians 5:13. We need to navigate the road of God's Grace which is paved by "Law, Liberty & Love" - while keeping out of the ditches on either side bounded by legalism and license.
